Nine killed as van rams into truck

Rescue operations are going on at the accident site, volunteers are also facing difficulties due to darkness

Nine people were killed when the highroof van they were travelling in rammed into a truck on National Highway near Thatta late on Tuesday night.

The victims were coming back from a picnic at Keenjhar Lake. Locals and police sources said the van driver was speeding and could not apply brakes in time when the truck in its front stopped at the toll plaza.

The collision was so intense that the minivan was completely destroyed and nine people on board were killed.

The Makli Civil Hospital MS Dr Safdar said bodies of four people were brought there. Rescue operations are going on at the accident site, volunteers are also facing difficulties due to darkness.

On the other hand, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed deep sorrow over the loss of human lives.

The chief minister directed the administration to provide full assistance to the affected families and also ordered to impose emergency in Thatta Hospital.

Meanwhile, a body was found with a slit throat in Steel Town Quaid-e-Azam Park.

The 40-year-old Yusuf Ali was shifted to JPMC for the medical formalities. According to SHO Steel Town Zulfiqar Arain, The doctor said that the victim’s throat was slit with an iron grill that caused his death.
“Yusuf was a resident of Steel Town Colony. Initially, the incident appeared to be accidental, but further investigations are underway,” he added.
