PESHAWAR:

A policeman was martyred while three terrorists were killed during a counter-terrorism operation carried out by police in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district on Monday.

The operation was launched by local police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Pahar Khel Thal, a village on the outskirts of Lakki Marwat, against terrorists.

During the operation, as many as three terrorists were killed including two suicide bombers who blew themselves up and another terrorist was killed in an exchange of fire with police.

CTD Inspector Javed Iqbal and ASI Irfan were injured in the gunfight with militants and shifted to Khalifa Gulnawaz Hospital where the former succumbed to his injuries.

Earlier this month, eight terrorists were killed and two soldiers martyred in an intelligence-based operation in the Zarmilan area of South Waziristan district.

According to a statement issued by military’s media wing, the ISPR, on April 15, an “intense exchange of fire took place” between the security forces and terrorists during the operation.

“Our own troops effectively engaged the terrorists’ location. Resultantly, eight terrorists were sent to hell,” the Inter-Services Public Relations stated. Two soldiers – Lance Naik Shoaib Ali, 25, a resident of Parachinar in Kurran district, and Sepoy Rafiullah, 22, a resident of Lakki Marwat district – embraced martyrdom after fighting gallantly in the gun battle with militants, it added.

“Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain terrorists, who remained actively involved in terrorist activities against the security forces and the killing of innocent civilians.”
