KARACHI:

A gas cylinder exploded at a house in the Surjani Town during the preparation of sehri.

The gas cylinder blew up like a bomb igniting a fire in the house. The wall of the kitchen collapsed due to the impact of the explosion.

Many locals rushed to the scene when they heard the explosion. Police and Rangers also reached the spot immediately after the incident and were able to put out the fire with the help of locals.

All of the victims were shifted to the Burns Ward of Civil Hospital and identified as Abdul Rehman, 51, his wife Samira, 40, and their two children, Muhammad Yousuf, 12, and Fiza, 15. The explosion occurred due to gas leakage from the cylinder, police said, adding that Samira, the injured mother, and Fiza, her daughter, are reportedly in serious condition. While the police are further investigating the matter.

People are forced to use LPG cylinders due to pipped gas supply cuts. The low-quality cylinders get rusted and devolop leaks leading to fatal accidents.

Last month a gas pipeline blast caused the front portion of a house to collapse in Federal B area on Friday. The neighbours extinguished the fire and rescued the house owner, Arshad, from the debris.

He was then shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died during treatment.
