BAJAUR:

A man was gunned down in Bajaur tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Tuesday.

Police told The Express Tribune that unidentified miscreants opened fire in Inayat Kalay and badly injured Maaz, resident of Mamond and Shah Hussain. Both of them were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khar where Maaz succumbed to his injuries.

“Maaz was the son of late Mufti Bashir Muhammad, a well-known cleric of Mamond who was killed by unidentified assailants on 27 Ramazan in Bajaur,” said a police official, adding that Mufti Bashir was a candidate of Jamaiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) for national assembly.

He was killed in April last year.

Clerics are being constantly targeted by unidentified gunmen in the tribal district while some have been killed in roadside bomb blasts.

ISIS-Khurasan claimed responsibility for some of the attacks. It may be mentioned here that targeted attacks at police and civilians have increased manifold since the fall of Kabul to Taliban in Afghanistan after the US withdrawal.
