The sick elephant, Noor Jehan, which has grabbed the attention of the nation and foreign animal rights activists, lies on the sand pile in her enclosure at Safari Park.
Unable to move on her own for the sixth consecutive day, Noor Jehan is lifted with the help of crane to change her side in the enclosure declared an intensive care unit (ICU).
Karachi Zoo Director Kunwar Ayub, however, said that Noor Jahan's condition is improving. "We have set up a temporary intensive care unit (ICU) for her," he said.
Ayub expressed hope that the Four Paws team will provide her better treatment, but, till the foreign team arrives, it is necessary to increase her immunity level. "We are also massaging her by applying various gels and lotions," he said.
Administrator Karachi Dr Saifur Rrhman claimed that by following the instructions of Four Paws experts, the immunity of the elephant has increased compared to the previous days.
He said that Noor Jehan was moving her body parts. "As per instruction of vets, we administer about 25 drips of 1,000 ml per day to the ailing elephant with injections of multivitamins and antibiotics," he said adding, the zoo management is in constant touch with Four Paws regarding the elephant's health. It is expected that the international team will arrive Pakistan in a few days.
