Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Caretaker Chief Minister Muhammad Azam Khan on Friday ordered police to beef up security for the minority community in Peshawar and across the province.
The chief minister met the relatives of Dayal Singh, a Sikh who was recently gunned down in Peshawar, to show solidarity with the minority community in the province.
He expressed his condolences and handed over a compensation cheque of Rs1 million to the next of kin of the deceased.
During the meeting, the CM condemned the targeting of members of minority community and assured the Sikh community of the government’s commitment to ensure their safety.
He maintained that those responsible for the heinous crime would soon be brought to justice.
The chief minister also acknowledged the vital role played by minority community in the development of the country.
He also met the family of Kashif Masih, a Christian citizen who was also recently killed in Peshawar by unidentified miscreants and assured the family of all possible support and aid and vowed to bring the culprits to justice.
In an effort to improve the security of the minority community, he issued special instruction to the police.
The issue of the crematorium of the Sikh community was also being resolved.
Sikh community leader Gorpal Singh expressed gratitude to the CM and the provincial government for providing timely relief to the heirs of Dayal Singh.
His efforts were praised by the members of the minority community too who also shared with the chief minister their security related problems.
