Gandapur sent on two-day physical remand

Case against PTI leader transferred from ATC to sessions court

ISLAMABAD:

A local court handed over Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Ali Amin Gandapur, who was arrested in a case registered at the Golra police station, to the police on two-day physical remand.

After the terrorism provisions were deleted, the case was transferred from the Anti-Terrorism Court to the Islamabad sessions court.

Islamabad police produced Gandapur in the court of Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Raja Jawad Abbas Hasan on the completion of one-day physical remand. The police told the court that the provisions of terrorism against Gandapur have been deleted. After that, the court transferred the case to the Islamabad sessions court.

Later, Gandapur was produced in the Islamabad sessions court. Judicial Magistrate Ehtisham Alam Khan heard the case. The prosecutor requested that Gandapur be handed over to the police on further physical remand, which was opposed by the PTI leader’s lawyer Babar Awan. After arguments of the parties, the court approved a two-day remand of the PTI leaders.

In a two-page written judgment, the court said that Gandapur was earlier handed over for a one-day physical remand which remained insufficient in the view of the investigating officer.

The judgment further said that due to lack of time, the investigation officer could not obtain a DVD from PEMRA. Ali Amin Gandapur's two-day physical remand is granted because voice matching was required from the laboratory, the judge said.

The court also directed the investigating officer to produce the accused at the next hearing with a comprehensive investigation report.

On the other hand, investigating officer of CTD police station, Shamsul Akbar, had also reached the court to arrest Ali Amin Gandapur, but the court granted a two-day physical remand of the PTI leader.

PTI leaders Asad Qaiser, Pervez Khattak, Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khurshid, former AJK prime minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan Niazi and others were also present.
