They tried to threaten me: Armeena Khan takes on PMLN after private photos leaked
The star has taken on an entire political party after pictures of her infant child were threateningly made public
A recent incident on social media involving Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and actor Armeena Khan has sparked controversy. A young PTI worker based in London, Shayan Ali, shared a video on his Twitter handle where a woman can be seen ridiculing Maryam Nawaz while pretending to take a selfie.
After taking the picture, the girl demands that Maryam Nawaz steal her family. While Maryam Nawaz appeared to smile and ignore the behavior, the incident has drawn criticism and backlash from various quarters.

In all of this, the Bin Roye star took to her Twitter account to state, “Had this happened in Pakistan, the selfie lady would’ve ‘disappeared.’ I’m glad we have such freedom in the UK where we hold our politicians to account. If you’re going to live on British soil then it is our rule. We have freedom of speech.”

In an absurd turn of events, PML-N’s official Twitter handle shared a private picture of the actor with her infant child in hand, with a big cross canceling out the two. “How will the sick-minded youthias train the coming generation? And the fifth generation youthia will be at the lowest level,” read the caption.

While the tweet itself accumulated a fair deal of backlash. Armeena herself responded as well. “Maryam Nawaz hates babies I guess,” wrote the Sherdil star. “Poor thing couldn’t take it with her thin skin so sent her official goons to harass a private citizen of another country. I’ve never seen such a thing before from a mainstream political party before.”

Fesl Khan, the Janaan star’s husband, also penned a note on his handle, demanding an apology. “PMLN leadership, you are responsible for this account. You have posted a photo of my infant, just to troll my wife, thus crossing all bounds of decency. My daughter and I have no interest in Pakistani politics. But as a father, I will protect my child. Apologise immediately.”

“That picture of me postpartum with my 3-week-old infant on their official account was an own-goal,” stated Armeena in yet another tweet. “You guys hate on babies and there is never any coming back from that. Ever!”

After facing a whole lot of backlash from the political party’s supporters, Armeena decided to eventually take a break. She also issued a warning, stating, “It’s been a long day and I’ve seen a lot. They tried to threaten me, abused me with everything, and intimidate me online. I wonder what becomes of people in their jurisdiction and living under their government, I shudder to think. Stay safe folks, it’s a jungle.”

However, she did make note of the fact that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), despite being Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) political rival, does not resort to the same tactics. “I’ll say this though,” stated the Yalghaar star. “PPP has never attacked me from an official account. I once questioned one of the Bhuttos. She didn’t flinch and I admired that, they’re honestly more educated, whatever their politics. These PMLN lot though - nothing dignified about them.”

This exchange comes after a tweet issued by the actor, calling out PMLN Senior Vice President for “showing off food” when millions in her country die of hunger – especially given the economic turmoil the country is going through. The actor retweeted a video of Nawaz mixing fruit chaat for iftar. “Honey, this is in bad taste (politics aside). You showing off your food while millions in your country are dying?” Khan wrote.

Later that day, Armeena shared screenshots of comments against her where people asked her to “come out and help those dying” instead of being a keyboard sympathiser. “If only I was contesting for your country’s politics, I’d have definitely come. And I would have done great work, at least better than what they’re doing,” she wrote, adding that it doesn’t make sense for anyone to compare a politician with an actor.
