Actor Armeena Khan recently called out PMLN Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz for “showing off food” when millions in her country die of hunger – especially given the economic turmoil the country is going through. However, the statement didn’t sit well with Nawaz’s fans.
Khan not only got trolled for speaking against the politician but her “luxurious” habits were also compared to Nawaz. A user even called her out for the things that she got for her daughter, Amelia. Earlier this week, the Bin Roye actor retweeted a video of Nawaz mixing fruit chaat for iftar. “Honey, this is in bad taste (politics aside). You showing off your food while millions in your country are dying?” Khan wrote.

To which, a user asked Khan to “let it go” and “spread positivity” because that’s just Nawaz reminding her fans that she’s as human as they are. “First of all, she didn’t prepare for that, I can tell you that. Just moving the spoon around is not food ‘prep’, those sleeves would be mucky. Also, she is anything but normal but whatever floats your boat or doesn’t,” she replied.

While Khan was fighting off trolls on Twitter, she didn’t know Nawaz’s fandom would attack her on Instagram as well. Upon sharing a basket received for her daughter, a user slid into her DMs and said, “Here a lot of people are dying and you're buying more stuff for your kid? (in favour of Maryam Nawaz).” Sharing that message on her Instagram Story, she emphasised that while the basket was a gift, nobody in her country (Canada) is dying from hunger.
“I’d like to draw attention to the fact that this is a gift. Also, nobody in my country is dying but millions in hers are starving/dying. Anyway, wishing you happy new brain cells.” A user lauded her response and pointed out the hypocrisy of Nawaz’s fans for not seeing that the politician hasn’t stopped spending on luxuries but they expect her critics to do it instead.
Later that day, Khan shared other screenshots of comments against her where people asked her to “come out and help those dying” instead of being a keyboard sympathiser. “If only I was contesting for your country’s politics, I’d have definitely come. And I would have done great work, at least better than what they’re doing,” she wrote, adding that it doesn’t make sense for anyone to compare a politician with an actor.
“As far as this lady is concerned, if she considers herself a leader then she should make sacrifices for her nation. I will call it as I see fit. Comparing an actor to a politician – the state of these ‘educated’ minds,” she concluded. Khan also posted a video of New Zealand’s former prime minister Jacinda Ardern and wished Pakistan “had someone like her.”
