Penn Badgley, who plays Joe Goldberg in You, just had the most delightful exchange on Twitter with a user who mistook him for having converted to Islam due to a GQ and Maison Valentino photoshoot.
A user of the microblogging site shared a screenshot of a shoot, stating that he thought the Gossip Girl star had “converted to Islam”, capping their tweet off with a Ramazan wish for Badgley.
I thought man converted to Islam for a second. Happy Ramadan brother @PennBadgley pic.twitter.com/uquBMtK8cL

The American actor not only noticed the tweet, but also responded to it, calling it one of his favourite takes. “You’re not too far off, I just finished fasting as a Bahá’í for our month of ‘Alá. Happy Fasting this Ramadan fam,” commented Badgley.

While that was a wholesome exchange, and not something many would expect from the You star, others joined in on the fun, and what ensued is hilarious, to say the least.
“My bro doesn't only care and kill for love, but he prays and fasts too. Legend!” wrote a fan.

“Assalamualaikum, you,” wrote another, teasing the actor in accordance with his popular line from the hit Netflix show.
Assalamualaikum, you.

Some users decided to do some editing to make Badgley fit the role.

There was also a lot of confusion pertaining to the religion he talked about in his response. The Bahá’í Faith is a religion founded in the 19th century by Bahá'u'lláh, a Persian nobleman. It is a monotheistic religion that emphasizes the spiritual unity of all humanity and the equality of all people regardless of race, gender, or social status.
