Quetta police on Friday took custody of Hassan Khan Niazi, the focal person and nephew of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, and left for Balochistan after a judicial magistrate in Islamabad approved a one-day transit remand of the PTI leader, Express News reported.

Niazi was taken into custody by police outside the Judicial Complex in Islamabad on Monday.

Police sources had said that Niazi was apprehended in G-11 near the Judicial Complex for his involvement in attacking law enforcement personnel and causing chaos in the federal capital.

The arrest is part of an ongoing crackdown on PTI activists and supporters who police claim assaulted law enforcers while they were performing their duties in Islamabad.

The PTI, however, claimed that Niazi had been "abducted" by police officials as he had already obtained bail in all cases.

Quetta police officials reached the district and sessions court in Islamabad earlier today to arrest Niazi, who was produced in court after judicial magistrate Abbas Shah issued a summon for the PTI leader.

The Quetta police requested a one-day transit remand from the court, which was granted. The court directed the Investigation Office (IO) to produce Niazi to the relevant court on March 25.

A day earlier, a district and sessions court in Islamabad had sent Niazi to jail on a 14-day judicial remand in a case related to clashes between PTI workers and Islamabad police outside the Federal Judicial Complex during the court appearance of the former prime minister in the Toshakhana case.

The local court rejected the police’s plea seeking further physical remand of Hassan Niazi as the police failed to recover anything from the suspect during the investigation after taking him into custody.
