‘Police told to improve security for foreigners'
The police have been directed to beef up security for foreigners and offices of multinational companies, Capital City Police Officer Ahmed Raza Tahir said on Saturday.
He said police would also advise foreigners to keep a close liaison with law-enforcement agencies and to immediately report any suspicious person or activity to police’s Rescue 15 helpline.
He said police would also check and verify details of guards employed by private security agencies. These agencies, he said, would be asked to report particulars of new personnel joining or leaving them to the district police. “A guard will be allowed to be hired only after law enforcement agencies have verified their antecedents,” he said.
Tahir directed police officials not to let beggars gather at traffic signals on major roads. He was told that so far 699 beggars had been arrested from across the city and 691 cases registered against them.
He said property dealers had been asked to keep comprehensive record of people renting houses through them. “Hotels and guesthouses will not be allowed to take in guests without seeing their computerised identity cards,” he added.
About security arrangements on the day of Eid, the CCPO said policemen would be assigned duties at all major mosques and imambargahs. He said no one would be allowed to enter these facilities without a security check.
He said police would set up posts in all important markets of the city to provide security to shoppers. He directed the chief traffic officer to ensure smooth flow of traffic during Eid holidays. The CCPO further directed officials to maintain a friendly atmosphere at police stations so that people were encouraged to bring their problems to the police.
