A three-member bench of the Supreme Court directed the Employees Old-age Benefit Institution (EOBI) on Thursday to decide whether or not it wanted to keep the disputed properties and submit a detailed report on April 30.
During the hearing by a three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial, the EOBI chairperson and board members appeared in the court.
The chairperson told the court that the EOBI had already submitted its position regarding the properties. However, the chief justice remarked that many applications had been filed and they were still awaiting replies.
The court directed the EOBI to take a decision on returning the properties to the owners. The chief justice also told the chairperson to consult EOBI lawyer as well as the opposing parties for taking the decision.
The counsel for the company that provided the disputed properties to the EOBI told the court that both the properties and the money were in the possession of the EOBI since July 31, 2013. In the last 10 years, he added, the EOBI had changed its stance three times.
The chief justice said that the Supreme Court only took decisions based on law. Later, the hearing of the case was adjourned till April 30.
