MIRANSHAH:

Security forces gunned down a suspected terrorist and injured two others in an Intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Derdoni area of North Waziristan, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) elaborated that there was an exchange of fire between the security forces and the suspected terrorists.

In the outcome of the IBO, one suspected terrorist was killed and the other two suffered injuries.

Separately, the security forces apprehended a suspected terrorist – believed to be involved in preparing material for suicide attacks -- in another operation in Haider Khel village of North Waziristan’s Mir Ali tehsil.

A motorcycle, planted with 20 kilogrammes of explosive material, was also seized from his possession.

Earlier on March 5, a facilitator of suicide bombers was arrested from the same area.

During interrogation, he confessed to planning suicide attacks and making preparations for them.

He also identified other facilitators as well as explosive material buried in the ground.

This year alone, 45 suspected terrorists have been killed and 17 arrested in different raids and other actions.

They included an important commander and would-be suicide bombers.

At least five personnel of the security forces embraced martyrdom in these actions.

On March 8, security forces killed six suspected terrorists during an IBO in Datta Khel area of North Waziristan.

The next day, three more suspected terrorists were gunned down in the same area.

The security forces also found weapons and ammunition in the possession of the slain suspected terrorists.

“[The] locals … appreciated the security forces’ response and expressed their full support to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the area,” the ISPR said.
