Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Secretary Ali Jan Khan has said that over 52,000 inmates will be screened under an integrated medical programme being initiated in 43 jails of the province from Monday.
The screening will be conducted for TB, hepatitis B and C, asthma, diabetes, obesity and pregnancy, he added.
Addressing a conference of district health authority chief executive officers and hospital medical superintendents, he said medical officers of the district and tehsil headquarters hospitals had been given two-month anesthesia training in phases in collaboration with the specialised healthcare department to overcome shortage of staff in the field.

The provincial secretary deplored the poor state of signboards in the hospitals and asked the MSs to install them at proper places to keep the environment clean.
He told the officials concerned that all the biomedical equipment should be made functional by March 25 at all cost. No excuse would be accepted in this regard, he warned.
Ali Jan Khan announced that 104 dialysis machines were being procured for hospitals serving the Universal Health Insurance Program beneficiaries.
He said disposable bedsheets would be made available soon in the emergency and intensive care units of the DHQ and THQ hospitals.
