RAWALPINDI:

Civil Lines police on Thursday registered a case against a lawyer, Mudassir Malik, for breaking into the office of the woman chief officer of the district council Rawalpindi and threatening her with dire consequences.

Plaintiff Chief Officer Noshia Afzal told the police that an operation was conducted on March 7 to remove encroachments on Adiala Road. During the operation, the staff slapped fines on encroachers and their goods were also confiscated. She said that on March 8, advocate Mudassir Malik showed up at her office along with four vendors and demanded to return his clients’ belongings.

When the woman officer refused to return the confiscated goods, the lawyer allegedly hurled threats. The police registered a case at the request of the female chief officer and started an investigation. The case was registered under the provisions of intimidation and interference with government affairs.

Meanwhile, employees of the district council Rawalpindi staged a demonstration protest and observed a complete strike against misbehaviour of the lawyer with the female chief officer.

The protesters carrying placards also marched from the district council to the deputy commissioner’s office. The protesters chanted slogans against lawyers. The protesters said that the law is equal for all, and storming the office of the woman officer and misbehaving with her was condemnable.

The protesters said that the district council officials be provided security, otherwise, they will be forced to take the law into their own hands.

Noshia Afzal who was among the protesters said that there will be no compromise on encroachments. The protesting employees also closed the main gate of the district council and did not allow lawyers to park their vehicles there.

The protesters said that they will continue with the protest on Friday if action was not taken against the lawyer.
