Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz has called for the court martial of the former director-general of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed.

In an interview on Wednesday, Maryam alleged that Faiz had played a role in destabilising the country by bringing down the PML-N government for two years and supporting Imran Khan's government for four years.

Maryam stressed the need for exemplary punishment for Faiz to ensure that no one would dare to play any "unconstitutional role" in the future.

She stated that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif made the people believe that everything is good within the constitutional limits and that whoever goes beyond the constitutional role will have to pay the price for it.

During the interview, she also criticised former chief justice Saqib Nisar, calling him the "biggest criminal of the nation."

The PML-N leader accused Nisar of being influenced by military officials during his time on the bench.

Separately, the PML-N leader urged women to help set the direction of the country by participating in the voting process.

Addressing a programme held in connection with International Women’s Day, she called upon them to contribute to the progress of the country by participating in all sectors of life.

She said that Mohtarma Fatimah Jinnah was an inspiration for women, who always stood by her brother, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, in the Pakistan Movement struggle. She said that Fatimah Jinnah was a trendsetter, from whom women should get encouragement.

She said that her mother Kalsoom Nawaz Sharif was a traditional and eastern lady, but during testing times, she came out and bravely faced the dictatorship of General Musharraf. “She was a great mother, who trained me to face the hardship of life,” Maryam added.
