Inspector General Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar vowed on Sunday to clear the riverine kacha areas of criminal elements, including organised gangs.
During a visit to the Kacha Bhong area of Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur, he ordered the police officials of the region to expedite combing operations against criminal gangs. He stressed that merit should be ensured at the police station level.
Addressing a meeting along with South Punjab Additional IG Maqsoodul Hassan in Rahim Yar Khan, he said the police were using all their strength, resources and abilities to protect the people.
He said that in order to ensure the endurance of law and order established with immense hard work and dedication, combing and targeted operations were being speeded up for elimination of the gangs from the area so that permanent peace could be established.
Bahawalpur Regional Police Officer Rai Babar Saeed and Rahim Yar Khan DPO Rizwan Umar Gondal gave a detailed briefing on the situation in the kacha area.
Dr Anwar also held a meeting with the SDPOs and SHOs of Rahim Yar Khan. He gave awards to the police officers who had performed outstandingly in the region.
Later, he reached Kacha Bhong and said the police personnel deployed in the area would continue to be provided all resources for operations against dacoits.
He said the personnel deployed in the area had a key role in maintaining law and order.
The IG praised the bravery of Constable Amir Abbas who had been injured during a police encounter in Kacha Machhka.
Later, the IG visited Kacha Rajanpur and met officials posted at the Jeevan Mor checkpoint.
