PESHAWAR:

In a tragic incident, a couple married for the past 25 years reportedly shot each other dead in Peshawar following a heated argument between the two.

The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Budhbir police station in the Shahab Khel area of the provincial capital during which both pointed guns at each other.

Police said Bakhsheesh, son of Haji Muslim, critically injured his wife Mismah after opening fire at her. The injured wife shot her husband dead on the spot in retaliatory fire. Mismah later succumbed to her wounds at a local hospital.

However, police are also investigating the case from another angle as they suspect the son could be involved in killing his father to avenge his mother's death.

Police officials have recovered a Kalashnikov, a pistol, and empty shells from the house. They have also shifted the bodies of the deceased to a local hospital for post-mortem.

A case has been registered on the complaint of Bakhsheesh's son Khan Zaib, with the incident being termed "cross-firing" in the FIR. A team under the supervision of DSP Budhbair Imtiaz Alam has been constituted for further investigation.

Police suspect the wife might not have shot her husband but instead the son gunned him down to avenge the killing of his mother, SP Saddar Circle Malik Habib told The Express Tribune, adding that investigation was underway from this angle as well.

He further said that the forensic report of both weapons recovered from the crime scene would help identify the real accused.
