ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Qadir Khan Mandokhail on Wednesday said that 8.3 acres of railway land has been illegally occupied under the guise of NGO.

He made the claim in a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Railways, which was chaired by Muhammad Mueen Wattoo.

The meeting reviewed progress on the administrative control of the Railways school near Karachi's Kala Pul. "How long should I keep serving notices?" Qadir Mandokhail enquired, adding that the matter should be solved once and for all.

Assuring the panel on keeping department's interests intact, railway authorities said that action would be taken according to the law.

They informed the committee that an inquiry in this matter had been ordered, and that the action would be taken as per the findings of the inquiry report, which "will be filed next week". Mandokhail added that the railway chairman was wasting time, adding that the land was worth more than Rs10 billion. The standing committee member Hamid Hameed alleged that millions had been raised in the name of donation for this school.
