KARACHI:

Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh said on Thursday that the provincial government had decided to install solar panels in all districts of the province under the Sindh Solar Project. He said panels would be installed in 200,000 houses in rural and urban areas.

The decision was taken at a meeting with the delegation of the World Bank headed by the WB country director. A subsidy of $160 per house in rural areas and $110 in urban areas would be given, he said. “Initially, solar panels are being installed in 10 districts and it will be extended to the whole of Sindh.”

The energy minister said the World Band delegation expressed satisfaction over the pace of ongoing projects in the energy sector in the province. The development objective of Sindh Solar Energy Project for Pakistan is to increase solar power generation and access to electricity in the province. A component of the project is deployment of affordable Solar Home Systems (SHSs) in prioritized areas with low or no access to electricity.
