LHC adjourns hearing on appeals in Benazir murder case

The court had issued an arrest warrant for the missing accused, but the police did not submit any report

A special division bench of the Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi has adjourned the hearing of the appeals in the murder case of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto for an indefinite period. The appeals have been pending for the last five and a half years.

During the hearing of appeals by the special division bench comprising Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan and Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf, convicted suspects including former CPO Saud Aziz and SSP Khurram Shehzad also appeared in the court.

On the other hand, only one of the acquitted suspects, Sher Zaman, appeared in court.

Accused Aitzaz Shah is currently imprisoned in Karachi as he was arrested by the Karachi police after his acquittal in the case.

Two acquitted suspects Abdul Rasheed and Hasnain are still imprisoned in Adiala Jail while one of the suspects, Rafaqat, went missing soon after his release.

The court had issued an arrest warrant for the missing accused, but the police did not submit any report to the court in this regard. At this, the court expressed strong displeasure and reprimanded the SHO City.
