Police say primary responsibility for securing the equipment lies with the sewage plant management

Theft incidents at the Haroonabad Sewage Treatment Plant in Pak Colony have become a recurring issue. Reportedly, over a few days, goods worth over Rs2500,000 were stolen from the plant. The Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage of the recent theft incident has surfaced in which the thieves were seen stealing doors, pipes, wires, and various pumps from the plant.

Due to the frequency of the theft incident, police and sewage plant management are blaming each other. The management said that the incidents have been reported to the police, but no action was taken to apprehend the culprits. On the other hand, the police said that its officials investigated the incidents, but the sewage plant management was least interested in the investigation process. The primary responsibility for securing the equipment lies with the sewage plant management, the police said.

According to sources, equipment worth millions of millions of rupees in the past 2.5 years has been sold to the junk markets in Sher Shah, with the involvement of the sewage plant management. The sewage treatment plant was meant to feed the Gutter Baghicha that ran along the west of the Lyari River. However, the civic authorities remain oblivious towards the upkeep of the plant as well as the once thriving urban forest the Gutter Baghicha.
