SHC orders power supply to illegal cabins, kiosks cut off
The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Saturday ordered the K-Electric to disconnect power supply to illegal roadside cabins, stalls, and kiosks on the Sir Shah Muhammad
Suleman Road in the Liaquatabad area of Karachi. The court also directed the Liaquatabad assistant commissioner to clear the road of all encroachments.
Appearing before the SHC bench, the counsel for the petitioner stated that the service lane along the road had been completely taken over by encroachers, causing inconvenience to pedestrians and residents.
The counsel submitted that the illegally set up cabins, stalls, and kiosks receive electricity supply through illegal connections referred to as ‘kundas’. They added that power consumers in the area have to pay for this pilferage in the shape of inflated bills.
The court ordered the Liaquatabad assistant commissioner and officials of relevant government departments to immediately dismantle all the encroachment and clear the Sir Shah Suleman Road.
