Robbery suspect held after ‘encounter’

FAISALABAD:

Police claimed to have arrested a robber after a gunfight within the jurisdiction of Gulberg police station on Wednesday.

A patrol squad spotted three suspected motorcyclists in Shehbaz Town late at night and signaled them to stop, but they accelerated and attempted to flee.

Police chased them and but the suspects took cover near Kamal Abad Graveyard on Madina Abad Road and opened fire on the pursuing police team. During a brief encounter, an accused sustained bullet wounds and fell to the ground, while his two accomplices fled the scene under cover of darkness.

Police arrested the injured suspect and later identified him as 33-year-old Shan, who was wanted in connection to a number of robberies and other cases.
