Karachi search operation: 90 arrested, FC personnel deployed

Interior minister says suspects including target killers were nabbed during a search operation in Bilal Colony.

KARACHI:
More than 90 suspects have been arrested during a house-to-house search operation launched in various areas of Karachi.

Over 20 suspects were reportedly arrested during a police operation conducted in Haji Ilyas Goth area near Liaquatabad.

The suspects were shifted to different police stations for interrogation.


According to ASP Afnan, most people arrested during the operation were affiliated with drug dealers in the area.


Earlier Interior Minister Rehman Malik said police and Rangers will continue search operations against miscreants until the peace is restored in the city.

He said that Rangers have been empowered to take action anywhere and anytime.

He added that criminals will also be monitored in prisons.


In the latest incidents of violence, a body was found in a gunny bag this morning in the Kharadar area of Karachi.

A search operation in the Pak Colony area this morning was concluded with the arrest of several suspects.

FC personnel deployed

The deployment of 500 out of the 2,000 requested Federal Corps (FC) personnel was approved by Islamabad after the Sindh government requested for it in the wake of the search operation which is currently underway in Karachi.

Two people in the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) and Naval colony areas were killed overnight in addition to a lawyer who was shot dead in Zamzama.
