ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was spreading anarchy in the country accusing him of being part of a systemic plan to target the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the name of accountability.

“Imran Niazi has been part of a grand design to oust Nawaz Sharif & victimize PML-N in the name of accountability. From 2013 on, he has been an agent of anarchy & chaos in the country. His poisonous rants have debased politics, polarised society & undermined state institutions,” Shehbaz tweeted.

Prime Minister’s tweet comes a day after Imran Khan admitted to investing the Shaukat Khanam Cancer Hospital’s $3 million charity fund in a housing society. Following the statement, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb strongly criticised the PTI chairman.

The minister said that the people of Pakistan had given Zakat funds for the hospital and not for a private housing society. “He [Imran Khan] accused others of theft but now himself confessed to stealing and misuse of charity money,” the minister said.

“Imran did not even get approval from the board of directors of the hospital, while investing millions of dollars of charity money,” she said. “A swindler and fraud, who stole Toshakhana gifts and misappropriated Zakat funds,” she added.

The minister alleged that Imran did not consider the plunder of Toshakhana gifts and misappropriation of £190 million an issue, adding that for him 5-carat diamond or getting foreign funding against the national interests was not a crime.

On the contrary, against his political opponents whom he called thieves he could not prove false accusations in any court in Pakistan or in Britain, the minister continued. “This is the reason Imran Khan does not appear in courts because he will have to confess to all the crimes he has committed.”
