PDM will not contest 35 PTI seats: Fazl

JUI-F chief refrains from disclosing reasons

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Tuesday said that Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) would not contest in by-elections on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s 35 National Assembly (NA) vacant seats.

In his brief talk with journalists in Peshawar, he hinted at the 35 NA seats whose resignations were accepted by the NA Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Tuesday.

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) de-notified them after the speaker’s approval.

Fazl said that the reasons for refraining from the polls would be disclosed later on.

Earlier, PTI chief Imran Khan had expressed his intention to return to the assembly and to test PM Shehbaz with a confidence vote.

Parliamentarians whose resignations were accepted are Murad Saeed, Qasim Suri, Umar Ayub, Asad Qaisar, Pervez Khattak, Imran Khattak, Shahryar Afridi, Najeeb Haroon, Aslam Khan, Aftab Jahangir, Ataullah, Aftab Hussain Siddiqui, Ali Haider Zaidi, Alamgir Khan, Saifur Rehman, Faheem Khan, Zartaj Gul, Shah Mahmood Hussain Qureshi, Malik Amir Dogar, Shafquat Mehmood, Hammad Azhar, Fawad Ahmed and Mansoor Hayat.
