The official trailer of Netflix's latest crime thriller, Class, was just dropped. Adapted from the much-acclaimed Spanish series Elite, the drama entails an intriguing narrative full of mystery mixed with teenage drama.
Directed by Ashim Ahluwalia, the trailer introduces Hampton International, described as "Dehli's most expensive school" featuring high-profile teenagers engaging in ruthless banters, having fun at parties, doing drugs and of course involved in a mysterious murder whose details are kept under wraps throughout the teaser.
However, through the voiceovers, viewers learn that three students named Dheeraj, Balli, and Saba are the primary contenders, also termed as "viruses" on the exclusive school's premise. Much like Elite's storyline, the students stem from working-class families and are the main target of the rest once a murderer is found to be in the mix.
In the two-minute clip, the plot divulges from an intimidating teenage melodrama towards a more eerie setting where Dheeraj's collision with the unfamiliar world leads him to uncover odd secrets and the reality of an institution where much is overlooked due to the students' rich background.
As one of the characters says, "See, money doesn't buy you class" the trailer takes a massive shift to characters committing acts of violence, backstabbing, theft and trying their best to escape the eye of the enraged police officers.
Once the door to murder is open, betrayal and deceit are only a few steps behind and in Class, there is only one definite truth: no one’s who they say they are. As the trailer concludes, an agitated voiceover laments the cruel treatment received by the aforementioned wealthy children and vows to show everyone else that they're all of the "same class."
Although the show aims to portray a murder mystery, there is more complexity to the narrative with many sub-plots holding the story and secrets together, making it an even more compelling watch for fans.
“Class is a universe I always envisioned designing for India,” said director Ahluwalia in a statement. “Each character’s journey is unpredictable and fascinating. Young people can be highly emotional and impulsive, which makes for great dramatic conflict. Nobody remains unchanged and these layers in the narrative make it a wild, addictive watch.”
Produced by Bodhitree Multimedia Limited, Class will feature Gurfateh Pirzada, Anjali Sivaraman, Ayesha Kanga, Chayan Chopra, Cyaawal Singh, Chintan Rach, Madhyama Segal, Moses Koul, Naina Bhan, Piyush Khati and Zeyn Shaw in pivotal roles.
"Money talks… but will the money be able to hide the web of lies, crime and pretense?" asks the official Netflix India on Youtube. You can find out by tuning in to Netflix on February 3 this year!
