The City Traffic Police (CTP) provided licences and other services to over 500,000 people during 2022. During the past year, over 300,000 people were provided learner permits, said Chief Traffic Officer Dr Asad Malhi on Sunday.
The CTO told the media that 108,718 people renewed their driving licences, while 32,132 availed new licences during the outgoing year. Meanwhile, over 32,000 citizens who appeared in driving tests for licences did not pass, and new international driving licences were issued to 13,726 citizens.
The CTO further added that duplicate licences were issued to 3,616 citizens after they lost their original documents, adding that cases were registered against 18 suspects who looting people of their driving licences.
Dr Asad Malhi said that 413 licences were revoked over careless, irresponsible and rash driving, addng that in 2022, only 142 candidates could pass the public service vehicles test. In 2022, over 255,000 tickets were issued over driving without a licence, he added.
