BAJAUR:

Double shift teachers in Bajaur have once again demanded of the government to immediately pay their salary and dues of the last five months otherwise they will have no option but to go for an all-out protest.

Talking to The Express Tribune on Sunday, the president of Double Shift Teachers Association, Abdul Hadi said that the start of double shifts in government schools was a good start on the part of the provincial government.

“Teachers have been recruited for these shifts who are paid very nominal salaries and they are not paid for five or six months at a time despite the fact that all these teachers have families to support,” he said, adding that government had taken a good step to increase literacy rate in the province but there were serious shortcomings too.

It may be mentioned here that there are 234 male teachers and 108 female teachers working in these double shift schools across Bajaur.

“Government considers the double shift its success but on the other hand doesn’t bother to solve the problems faced by the teachers’ community,” he added.

He claimed that their dues have been shifted to the account of additional deputy commissioner for the past two and a half months but the education department and ADC demand their share in the teachers’ salaries.

“It is really shameful that these high-ups want a chunk of our salaries. They are creating problems for us instead of solving them,” he claimed.

Teachers said that they had submitted applications to minister education, chief minister, district education officer Bajaur and deputy commissioner Bajaur but to no avail.

They demanded proper service structure for the teachers of double shift schools and said that their salaries should be shifted to their accounts to solve the problem of embezzlement.
