Pakistan, Iran to further boost trade ties

Meeting discussed bilateral border and barter trade, transportation and issues related to imports and exports

Pakistan and Iran on Saturday agreed to boost bilateral trade and explore opportunities to increase imports and exports.

This was decided at the 10th meeting of the Pak-Iran Joint Border Trade Committee, which was held at the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Pakistan trade delegation was led by Chief Collector Customs Abdul Qadir Memon while Iranian side was presented by Sistan-Balochistan Deputy Governor Dawood Shehrki.

Members of traders’ community from the two countries participated in the meeting and submitted various proposals to boost the trade.

The officials on the first day of the meeting discussed in detail the implementation of points included in the memorandum signed by the 9th Joint Border Trade Committee in Iran.

They discussed the bilateral border and barter trade, transportation and the issues related to the import and export. The officials from the two countries held that bilateral cooperation had increased and deliberated on other agenda points.

They also deliberated upon tariff and non-tariff trade items, their import and export procedures, and the difficulties faced by the importers and exporters and their reservations, visa issuance conditions and fees, and issuance of flights from Quetta.

The meeting decided to form tourism promotion committees, opening and establishment of new border markets.
