ISLAMABAD:

More than 15,000 teachers of National Education Foundation (NEF), working in Basic Education Community Schools (BECS) pro, will receive their salaries before Eid. They have not been paid for the past eight months.

Rs800 million were released last month for the purpose, but NEF’s account was frozen due to differences between NEF Managing Director (MD) Kamran Zafar and BECS project director Brigadier Siraj, official sources said. The MD is also not coming to the office for the past few months, they added.

On Wednesday, Federal Secretary Ministry of Professional and Technical Development Qamaruz Zaman Chaudhry took serious notice of the delay in payment of the salaries. He directed MD Zafar to go to the office and expedite the process for disbursing salaries of around 15,000 BECS teachers across the country (each school has one teacher).

An official said the salaries would be released after a thorough verification through NADRA, which has been made mandatory.
