KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court has issued notices to IG Sindh and others, preventing the police from arresting Shahbaz Gill on a petition related to making derogatory statements against national institutions.

A hearing was held before a two-member bench headed by Justice Salahuddin Pahnwar on the petition of PTI leader Shahbaz Gill.

The petitioner's lawyer submitted that the Surjani Town, Brigade and Rizvia police stations should be restrained from arresting Shahbaz Gill in the cases registered against him till the final decision on the petition is taken.

The court issued notices to IG Sindh and others for January 12. The court stopped the police from arresting Shahbaz Gill. The court remarked that Shahbaz Gill should not be arrested in three cases registered in Karachi.

In the application, Shahbaz Gill had taken the stand that cases have been registered against him in Sarjani Town, Brigade and Rizvia police stations. A case related to the statement has been registered in Lahore. In the light of Sugrabai case, only one case can be registered for one incident. The cases registered in Karachi should be declared null and void.
