The year 2023 is expected to be the year Apple launches its AR/VR headset, along with its series of new products including MacBook Pro, Mac mini, iMac, Mac Pro, and more. New refreshes of the Apple Watch and iPhone 15 will also be released in the same year.
The iPhone 15 is expected to be swapped with USB-C, eliminating the lightning port, while adding the periscope zoom technology for the iPhone 15 Pro (or Ultra) and an A17 chip. Macrumours outlined the main products that are expected to be released the next year.
AR/VR Headset
After working on the AR/VR headset for more than five years, 2023 is expected to be the year the product finally makes its appearance. The headset will be a limited edition and quite expensive, as it combines both augmented and virtual reality, creating an immersive experience of the real world.
The VR apps would be able to capture facial movements and relay them into video chats and other interactions. Eight cameras will be used for see-through augmented reality experiences, which will be able to detect people present in the room, map surfaces and room dimensions, place objects in front and behind real objects. Apple will use eye-tracking, and hand gestures along with an input accessory to be placed on the finger.
The company is expected to open a store for the headset focusing on gaming, streaming video content, and communication; and might cost around $3,000.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro
The iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max will launch in the same expected size but there have been rumours that the new series may have a rounded off design similar to the casing on 2021 model 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. The phone might contain a titanium chassis for the Pro models, along with a solid-state volume and power buttons that would be similar to the Home button on Touch ID iPhones.
Apple will be transitioning its iPhone from the lightening port to USB-C which was already being used for Macs and iPads. The USB-C will be universal for charging across all Apple devices and might even boost charging speeds. The iPhone 15 Pro models will support either USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt speeds for data transfer up to 40Gb/s. The high-end larger iPhone is expected to have periscope lens technology which will improve optical zoom from the telephoto lens.
The iPhone 15 series may also have the next-generation A17 chip, increasing processing performance by 10 to 15 percent, while also reducing power consumption by up to 30 percent.
Macs and Displays
Mac Pro
The Mac Pro hasn't been refreshed since 2019 and is the only Apple device equipped with Intel-based chips. Apple will use an M2 Ultra chip, an iteration of the M1. It could feature up to a 24-core CPU, up to a 76-core GPU, and up to 192GB of RAM, possibly more.
14-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro
These two MacBooks didn't receive a refresh this year and might be expected to get one in 2023 with Apple silicon chips. The models will feature M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, upgrades from the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips used in the prior-generation models.
15-inch MacBook Air
Currently, MacBook Air measures 13.6 inches but Apple is expected to be working on a 15-inch version. The new model may have the same design as the 2022 13-inch MacBook Air. It won't however, include mini-LED or ProMotion display technology.
Mac Mini
A new Mac mini is expected to be launched in 2023, though not much information is available, it might have an iterative update rather than a major refresh with a new design. Mac mini will also use Apple's M2 and M2 Pro chips, with designs in different colors.
iMac
The 24-inch iMac didn't receive a refresh last year, thus, one is expected in 2023 with M3 chips and no design updates, according to Bloomberg analyst. The gadget may even receive an M3 Pro and M3 Max chip options and be an iMac "Pro."
The company is expected to launch multiple screens in the upcoming year and analyst Ross Young has predicted that one of them might even be 27 inches in size and will feature mini-LED technology and ProMotion support.
HomePod
A new HomePod is set to launch in 2023, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, and a mid-sized HomePod might be sold alongside the mini version. The speaker is expected to feature a touch-integrated display and an S8 chip.
Apple Watch Series 9
This coming year, Apple refreshes its Apple Watch with new health sensors for monitoring blood glucose and blood pressure, but details still aren't clear on what features it might contain. Apple might also include a refresh of refresh the Apple Watch SE and the Apple Watch Ultra.
AirPods Max
Two years after the last AirPods Max, the product is due for a refresh which might include the same features as AirPods Pro, like H2 chip, improved Active Noise Cancellation, a U1 chip for Find My Precision Finding, Bluetooth 5.3, and Adaptive Transparency.
iPad Mini and iPad Air
The AirPad Air could get a refresh in 2023 while the iPad Mini is also overdue for an update. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also predicted that the new iPad mini might have a new chip and might launch in late 2023 or early 2024.
