Edhi Foundation found 289 bodies of newborns

'Do not dump unwanted newborns in open areas or on trash-heaps,' Faisal Edhi appealed

The Edhi Foundation found 289 bodies of newborn babies in different parts of the city throughout the outgoing year, according to the annual data shared by the country's biggest charitable organization with The Express Tribune.

Commenting on the terrible situation, the Foundation's Head, Faisal Edhi, said that the number has increased in comparison with the year 2021. "Do not dump unwanted newborns in open areas or on trash-heaps," he appealed to people.

"It is better to leave these newborns at our centers," he said, adding that his Foundation has provided a better future to hundreds of such babies.

The Foundation said that as many as 6,207 unclaimed bodies were found from different parts of the country. In 25,300 nationwide road accidents, Edhi volunteers provided rescue facility to 39,200 injured persons and took care of 9,342 bodies.

The data further shows that the number of women torture cases also increased in 2022 as a total of 5,400 women victims of domestic violence, along with their children, were provided shelter at Bilqees Edhi Shelter Homes in the outgoing year.
