Police says checkpoints have been established at every entrance, exit point of garrison city for strict surveillance

The Rawalpindi police have finalised the security preparations for the New Year's Eve to ward off possible threats to public safety.

According to a spokesperson for the police, on Saturday (today), more than 3,500 police personnel will perform security duty to uphold the rule of law.

He said checkpoints have been established at every entrance and exit point of the garrison city for strict surveillance. The police have warned owners of high-rise buildings from allowing their property to be used as launching pad for fireworks into the sky and celebratory firing. Operations SSP Waseem Riaz said, on the New Year's Eve, more than 3,500 police personnel will be on duty for security.

Fireworks and aerial firing will be completely prohibited throughout the city, he added.
