NAB Sindh seeks details of Thar Coal Water Project

Reports of irregularities amounting to Rs1.3b alert anti-graft body

KARACHI:

The National Accountability Board (NAB) Sindh chapter has become active once again after reports of irregularities pertaining to project funds amounting Rs1.29 billion were revealed in the Thar Coal Water Project.

The premier anti-graft body has sought records from the Irrigation Department secretary through an official letter, a copy of which is available with The Express Tribune.

According to the letter, NAB has asked for all the details related to the Thar Coal Water Project, including information pertaining to the funds of Rs1.29 billion.

NAB has asked in details how much money was allocated for the project, how much was released, and how much has been spent.

Besides that, NAB has sought records of how many officers were there during this work and who released the money. Details of the tender have also been requested by NAB. According to NAB, no record has been provided by Sindh Irrigation Department as yet.

It may be recalled that the Thar Coal Water Project project was started in 2016-17 for water conservation and supply to the people in Thar.
