A special court has directed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s son Suleman Shehbaz to join the investigation and ensure his presence in each hearing of a Rs16 billion money laundering case against him.
Judge Bakht Fakhar Bahzad issued the order on Saturday regarding pre-arrest bail granted to the accused in the case.
The court directed the investigation officer (IO) to produce the case record by January 7 and called for enlisting it in the cause list along with the bail petition.
The petitioner had implored the court that he and his family had been subjected to political victimisation by being implicated in false cases.
The petitioner stated that he was in the United Kingdom (UK) since October 27, 2018 and the FIR was registered in his absence, after which the prosecution managed to procure various orders, including one declaring him a proclaimed offender.
He stated that he had decided to return to the homeland to surrender for the legal process to vindicate his innocence.
