The Hollywood Reporter has just released a list of episodes that have been selected by their TV critics and made a mark on television with their powerful storylines.
Included on the list is none than Ms. Marvel's much-acclaimed episode, Time and Again, helmed by Pakistan’s Oscar-winning filmmaker featuring Mehwish Hayat and Fawad Khan essay the roles of Aisha and Hassan, respectively. The heartbreaking love story between the duo is now dubbed as one of the Best TV episodes of 2022.
"In the same way that Watchmen taught huge swathes of its audience about the Tulsa massacre for the first time, Ms Marvel makes indelible the Partition of India by tapping into the deeply personal wounds inflicted by that historical event, and by underlining the ways its consequences have echoed through generations of South Asian families," read the critics' review.
Taking to Instagram, Hayat announced the exciting news to her followers with a heartfelt note. "WOW", she began. "It is such an amazing honour to be singled out in this way against so many other more established shows."
She then went on to acknowledge the importance of showing the horrific impact of Partition to an international audience. "Partition is a very poignant period for all of us in South Asia and to be able to take it to a wider audience and this nod from THR shows that the story resonated with so many people. Thank you."
Moving on, the London Nahi Jaunga actor lauded Obaid Chinoy for being a great director and also thanked Ms. Marvel producers Sana Amanat and Jenna Berger for all their trust and support.
Ms Marvel premiered on June 8, 2022 and ran for six episodes until July 13. It is part of the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The TV series entails the story of a young girl named Kamala, who is infatuated with superheroes and has a vivid imagination, especially when it comes to Captain Marvel.
She feels out of place at school and home until she gains abilities like the characters, she has long admired. Amongst many others, the show stars Iman Vellani, Matt Lintz, Farhan Ahktar, Mohan Kapur, and Saagar Shaikh.
