Taunsa’s district status approved

One division, five districts formed in five months

LAHORE:

Amid uncertainty about his rule, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi awarded the status of a district to Taunsa and approved the Lahore Master Plan 2050 amid high political temperature in the provincial capital on Wednesday.

He issued a notification to award the status of district to Taunsa Sharif. The new district has three tehsils named Wahova, Taunsa and Koh-e-Suleman, and 362 union councils.

The chief minister highlighted that he had announced that in 2005 that Taunsa would be made a district and had had fulfilled his promise. After getting the district status, people of Taunsa will witness a new chapter of development in their area. All their issues could be resolved at their doorstep and employment opportunities would be available in the district, he highlighted.

The chief minister handed over the notification to MNA Khawaja Sherazul Mahmood and Muhammad Khan Leghari. He underscored that it was unprecedented that a chief executive had approved one division and five districts in the short span of five months.

Meanwhile, Pervaiz Elahi chaired a Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Governing Body meeting in which approval was given to the Lahore Mater Plan 2050. Under the master plan, a sustainable policy to maintain an urban-rural balance in the provincial capital would be ensured.
