LAHORE:

Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday said that the vote of confidence and no-trust motion against Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi would be faced together by the alliance of his party and PML-Q.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, the PTI leader said, “We have decided that the PTI and PML-Q were and will remain allies and face this vote of confidence and no-confidence together.”

Claiming to have 190 seats in the Punjab Assembly, Chaudhry said that both the parties will be holding parliamentary meeting on Wednesday and Thursday to keep the Punjab CM in power.

He said, “It is the PA speaker’s prerogative whether to take up the confidence vote first or no confidence vote first. The advice for dissolving the PA will be given immediately after the failure of the no-trust move.”

As per the law, the chief minister cannot dissolve the assembly once a no-confidence motion has been moved against him. The governor’s recent requirement for the chief minister to seek a vote of confidence from the house means he has to ensure that he manages to secure 186 votes on Wednesday.

The PTI, at the moment, has 177 while the PML-Q has 10 members in the Punjab Assembly. On the other hand, the opposition has a combined 176 members from the PML-N, PPP and Rah-i-Haq parties.

Chaudhry also addressed the matter of pending PTI resignations in the National Assembly (NA), saying that the party had started its process of MNAs vacating their seats and called on the NA speaker to accept their resignations.

The PTI leader said, “We want that there are elections on the same day for the NA and provincial assembly”.

Moonis, in a tweet, confirmed that the strategy regarding the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly had now been completed.

He said, “No matter how hard PDM tries, it cannot stop snap elections. Imran Khan will win the next elections”.
