Police on Saturday claimed the arrest of three accused involved in the murder of former village defence committee (VDC) member in Charbagh area of Swat.
The murder of VDC member Muhammad Qayyum caused widespread panic in the area as it was largely considered a targeted attack by militants.
District Police Officer (DPO) Shafiullah Khan Gandapur told The Express Tribune that after registering an FIR in the blind murder case, police started investigation and found clues that it was not a terrorist attack.
“The man was killed over a personal feud as he was over-possessive about his girlfriend who had other suitors too. He insisted that she would only talk and meet him on which a suitor killed him,” Gandapur said, adding that three people have been arrested.
“Muhammad Qayyum had an affair with a woman Mehnaz who had several other suitors. He had bought a mobile SIM for her on which they kept contact. The SIM was registered in his name. When a suitor of Mehnaz, Muhammad Saleem discovered that the woman was playing double game, he asked Mehnaz to stop talking with Muhammad Qayum,” he informed, adding that the woman threw the SIM off.
“Soon Muhammad Qayum discovered it and eventually found the truth on which both the men threatened each other and Qayyum asked the woman to stop meeting Saleem,” claimed the DPO.
