Two sentenced in double-murder case

Judge hands down capital punishment, life term

Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Azim Shaikh sentenced a man to death and another to life imprisonment in a double-murder case on Tuesday

According to the prosecution, complainant Faisal Mumtaz had told the Civil Lines police that Zainul Abidin and Muhammad Rawal had been shot dead by Khalid Hussain and Qutub Uddin alias Shahroz.

According to the police, the attackers and the victims had been involved in a dispute over taking pictures.

The Civil Lines police had filed a challan after registering a case last year under sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Faisal Mumtaz.

After the hearing was completed and the crime was proven, Additional District and Sessions Judge Azim Shaikh sentenced Khalid Hussain to death on two counts and Qutub Uddin to life imprisonment twice.

The judge also ordered Khalid to pay a fine of Rs500,000 and Qutub Rs200,000.

Both the convicts will serve additional imprisonment for six months in case of failure to pay the fine imposed by the court.
