Governor inaugurates youth talent hunt national league at UVAS

Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur-Rehman has said that financial assistance of the Higher Education commission (HEC) for setting up a wrestling academy, resource centre and swimming pool at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) will be fruitful for preparing the best swimmers and wrestlers for the future.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Prime Minister`s Youth Talent Hunt National Wrestling and Weightlifting League at the UVAS, he said the planned facilities should be of an international standard.

“Sports teach us sportsmanship to follow rules and regulations,”.he added. He advised students to spend their time in extra-curricular along with their studies.

The Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Youth Affairs Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the federal government was providing equal opportunities to girls and boys for the promotion of young talent. She advised the new generation to avoid political conspiracies and religious bigotry.

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Profesor Nasim Ahmad welcomed the players from across the country and thanked the HEC for providing financial assistance to establish the wrestling academy, saying that it would be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.

As many as 20 teams from all the provinces are participating in the competitions organised at the UVAS Sports Ground till December 20.
