Cases pile up as judges go on leave

Partial strike of lawyers increases woes of litigants who await verdicts

A large number of cases went unheard in various courts of district katchery due to the absence of 20 additional sessions and civil judges and the partial strike of lawyers.

According to sources, some cases, fixed for hearing, had to be adjourned without a hearing due to the said reasons.

They said litigants continued to suffer as many written verdicts of cases could not be issued due to the heavy backlog.

On the other hand, lawyers also continued a partial strike on the appeal of the Punjab Bar Council.

During the week, judges including Wasim Afzal, Muhammad Saeed, Farkhunda Arshad, Muhammad Afzal Majuka, Khurram Saleem and Masood Akhtar Kayani went on leave.

Moreover, Senior Civil Judge Ghulam Akbar and Civil Judges Taimur Afzal, Zaheer Safdar, Neelam Basharat, Wajia Khawaj, Saima Hanif, Khalid Hayat, Sana Afzal, Muhammad Naeem Ali, Tariq Khan, Syed Naveed Muzaffar Hamdani, Muhammad Zeeshan, Marina Javed were also on leave.

On Saturday, no case could be heard in either of these judges' courts.

Sources said physical remand of 22 suspects arrested in separate cases was given by additional civil family judges and 14 accused were sent to Adiala Jail on judicial remand.

Moreover, six convicts' bail requests were approved, while nine others were rejected, they said, adding that some women were also sent to a shelter home.

Other than these, arrest warrants of eight accused were issued while seven accused were declared proclaimed offenders. The sources also said eight notice have been served on various parties in family cases.
