Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has expressed hope that his counterparts in Punjab and K-P will not take hasty decision of dissolving the provincial assemblies.
Talking to the media during his visits to the flood-hit areas of Dadu and Khairpur districts on Thursday, Shah contended that such an act on part of the CMs of Punjab and K-P will only reflect their failure to perform.
"A chief minister is empowered to dissolve the assembly. But there should be some logical reason for this act and this should not be done to pander to the wishes of someone," he said.
Shah said, a CM who is incapable of heading the government or who has lost the majority support or a situation in which no political party has the required number of the legislators to form the government may also opt to dissolve the assembly.
Shah said the governments of the two provinces should not be sent packing on the dictation of Khan. "However, if they decide to do so, we are ready to contest and win the elections."
He asserted that the Sindh government will not be affected by such a decision because he, being Sindh's CM, cannot influence the governments in Punjab and K-P.
Talking about the drainage of rain and flood water, the CM claimed that 85 per cent of the water has been drained out so far, referring to his ongoing visits to Jamshoro, Dadu, Kambar Shahdadkot and Khairpur districts.
He mentioned that the provincial government will spend Rs50 billion from its funds over the rehabilitation projects while a donor conference will be organised on January 9, 2023.
The CM announced that his government will release the first installment of Rs50,000 for reconstruction of the damaged or collapsed houses next month.
During the visits, Sindh irrigation minister Jam Khan Shoro briefed the CM that 398,401 acres of land in Dadu and 138,519 acres in Kambar Shahdadkot was under water by the end of August.
He claimed that due to efforts of the irrigation officers and staff the submerged areas have reduced to 105,337 acres and 30,509 acres, respectively.
The CM also carried out an aerial visit of the flooded districts.
Earlier, he condoled with the families which lost their loved ones in Sehwan and Nooriabad accidents.
