Instagram has recently rolled out different new features, including 'Notes' which will give competition to Twitter.
Notes are short messages limited to 60 characters that can include text or emoji. The added note is attached to the user's profile picture so that followers can view it.
The message remains there for the next 24 hours and can be updated to a new one. The followers can reply directly to that text by clicking on the profile picture in the DM menu.

As per Instagram, the reason behind introducing the new feature is the demand for a quick, spontaneous way of chatting among its users.
In its testing phase, the app understood its users who needed an easy way to share what was on their minds. Hence the new feature has been launched.

Apart from notes, Instagram is planning to introduce new features, including Group Profiles, where users can only share their posts or photos with a group of friends. It is also working on the 'Pass it on' feature, allowing users to nominate each other to continue a trend.
