GPS malfunctions could spell disaster at Lahore airport

Pilots are facing difficulty during landing and takeoffs at Allama Iqbal International Airport, say sources

The GPS systems of planes arriving at Allama Iqbal International Airport are reporting malfunctions for past many days which could cause a big plane crash if not fixed in time, sources told The Express Tribune on Sunday.

According to details, the problem is being reported at about 150 nautical miles from the airport as the pilots are facing difficulty during landing and takeoffs.

Sources said that seven planes have reported the issue in the last few days. A plane arriving from Abu Dhabi was the latest to report about the problem with its GPS on December 8.

They said that a plane was unable to land at the airport due to the malfunction of GPS, adding that the problem could result in a big crash if not fixed at the earliest.

The pilots of the affected plane have also registered complaint to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
