I never meant to instigate Awan’s murder: Sanaullah

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has clarified in his reply to the Supreme Court that his statement was merely an instance of shooting from the mouth and not an instigation to kill Dr Babar Awan.

Additional Advocate General Punjab, Khadim Hussain Qaiser submitted Sanaullah’s reply to Justice Ghulam Rabbani in his chamber. Sanaullah stated that he never issued orders to kill Awan and has tried to set the record straight a number of times earlier. Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly has already accepted Sanaullha’s explanation. Awan had requested the court to grill Sanaullah for declaring him liable to be killed. Justice Ghulam Rabbani granted time to Awan’s counsel Ramzan Chaudhary to submit a rebuttal and adjourned hearing of the petition till September 13.

Awan had filed an application in the apex court’s human rights cell and requested Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary for suo motu action on Sanaullah’s statement. The former law minister had requested the apex court to form a judicial commission to examine Sanaullah’s statement.

The provincial law minister had said that Awan was liable to be murdered. Awan wrote that if he or his family came to any harm or there was damage to his property, Rana Sanaullah should be held responsible. He contended that the Punjab government planned to attack him en route to Lahore during a visit. He said the conspiracy was disclosed to a former federal minister from Balochistan who is ready to depose before the court.

Awan said the Punjab government was desperate to arrest him on false charges to make an attempt on his life either in jail or at a police station or on the premises of district courts. “There is imminent danger to the life of the petitioner solely on account of his political activities from Rana Sanaullah and others,” Awan had maintained in his application.

Mr Taseer was killed at the end of a process started by bad-mouthed, verbally-violent Rana. Add to it the fact that terrorists from LJ etc are political partners of noon league. What difference it makes after an innocent looses his life regardless of whatever you meant.
